"The Choice" leaves one pondering over the choice that was made, and "The Bunner Sisters" finished up the book with a sad tale of devotion Įdith Wharton (born Edith Newbold Jones Janu– August 11, 1937) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist, short story writer, and designer. "The Long Run" tells of love lost, and "The Triumph of Night" is an odd story concerning premonitions of evil. "Kerfol" is an old-fashioned ghost story with a great last sentence. "Autres Temps" considers how times change yet we remain stuck in our times. "Coming Home" tells the tale of a wounded French soldier returning to his home near the front. "Xingu" is a laugh-out-loud story of a pompous book club. Overall this is an enjoyable collection of short stories that is worth reading as many of the stories showcase the human condition.
